1. Get the Larger U-Haul Truck Rental
If you’re in between picking two different sizes of U-Haul truck rentals, go with the larger one. It’ll be easier to adjust to having too much room vs. not having enough room.
When you get too small of a U-Haul truck rental, it becomes a headache on what you’ll do with the rest of your items. You also can read our “What Size U-Haul Truck Do I Need?” article.
“If you are unsure if the items will all fit into a smaller U-Haul, it’s wise to go ahead and upgrade to the next larger size U-Haul,” John Wayne Moving said. “The price difference is negligible and makes for more efficient loading.”
2. Tape Boxes Closed for Faster Process
You should have any loose items packed into your moving boxes, and those moving boxes taped shut prior to your Service Provider arriving at your home. By doing this moving tip, you’ll make the whole process much quicker.
You should have loose items into moving boxes with tops closed and taped shut, John Wayne Moving said. This way, it’ll create quick transportation and efficient loading.
3. Have Tape and Other Material for Moving Day
This moving tip is great for your moving day. You should have paper packing tape, furniture blankets, and mover’s stretch plastic wrap on hand. This way, you or your moving labor provider can use it for any needs, including last-minute needs.
It’s recommended having the items mentioned above because they can be used by your moving labor providers to help prevent damage to your furniture and pack the truck rental safely, John Wayne Moving said.
4. Leave Detailed Notes About Your Move
The best and fastest way to have a super easy move is to leave super detailed notes about your move.
While writing down you need “packing and unpacking help” is helpful, it doesn’t explain what you’re packing or unpacking, where your truck rental or storage container will be located near your home, how many stairs in your home, tight hallways, etc. The more details you can provide to your moving labor provider, the better it’ll be for everyone.
“(Customers should) leave detailed notes about their move instead of just load or unload,” is what Murphy’s Movers recommended.
5. Moving Help Service Providers Don’t Have Trucks
If you book a moving labor provider on the Moving Help Marketplace, you’ll need to understand that our Service Providers don’t offer trucks.
Because Moving Help is powered by U-Haul, you can easily rent a U-Haul truck rental, or you can book a U-Box storage container with U-Haul. Our providers are labor-only, which means they don’t have to provide any moving equipment either.
You’ll need to think about how you’ll transport their belongings since moving labor companies don’t provide trucks, Murphy’s Movers said.

6. No Hidden Fees With Moving Help
Moving Help doesn’t have any hidden fees. We don’t like hidden fees. The price you see is the price you pay. We believe in upfront pricing. Your Moving Helper has already accounted for driving time, gas, and stairs into the price you see online.
Customers should remember Moving Help doesn’t have any hidden fees, Murphy’s Movers said.
With no hidden fees — other than possible additional customer invoices that came up during the job — and the flexibility that booking by the hours offers.
7. Know Your Home’s Layout
know where everything is located. If you have items in multiple rooms, take pictures ahead of time, so your provider will know all the rooms they need to enter to move all your belongings.

“Know your house meaning every item in every room,” Elevation Movers said. “Have a good enough general idea of what you have even if you have to take and send pictures. If you have stairs, long hallways, etc., as this will help us to better factor in and give you an exact quote on how long your job will be so there’s little to no confusion.”
8. Consolidate Your Little Items
If you have a ton of little items, you should consolidate them into moving boxes as much as possible. You also should make it easier for the movers to move them quickly.
It’s recommended putting consolidated little items into moving boxes by the door, so providers can easily get them out and onto the truck for the customer, Murphy’s Movers said.
9. Know Where Your Stuff Goes in Your New Home
If you label your moving boxes by room, you’ll know which room it belongs to in your new home. Additionally, try to have an idea of where you want all your furniture located in your home.
It’s recommended to know where your belongings will go, so it can be in the exact intended spot in your new home, so you don’t have to touch anything after the job is done, Elevation Movers said.
10. Spreading Heavy Items into Smaller Boxes
You shouldn’t put heavy items into medium or large moving boxes. You should put heavy items such as books into small moving boxes or book boxes. Yes, you’ll have more boxes, but this will help you in the long run when it comes to loading.
11. Booking Enough Time for Your Move
While the most common booking with Moving Help is two helpers for two hours, it might not be right for you. When you search for moving labor in your area, you have an option to adjust how many helpers and hours you need.
Underneath those two options, you can click on the question, “How many hours do I need?” This pop-up box will help give you a better estimation for how long your move will take for you.
12. How to Properly Move a Fridge
Before you move a fridge, you should make sure you have the route planned first.

Then you’ll want to measure the fridge and any doorways it must pass to make sure there’s enough space. For more information, you can read our “How to Load a Fridge” article.

Moving Safety Tips
Whether you need help or not, you should always make sure your safety is a priority for you when moving. Here are four moving safety tips to keep in mind:

- Lift properly: You should make sure to lift with your knees not with your back when lifting heavy items. You back should be straight, not bent.
- Secure furniture: You should use furniture pads, mover’s plastic stretch wrap, and anything else you feel you need to protect your furniture. You don’t want to damage expensive furniture items like a sectional couch or a TV.
- Protect yourself and your items: You should protect yourself and all your items as much as possible. You should wear closed-in shoes, a dolly to help move belongings, and anything else that’ll make it easier to protect your items or yourself.
