A U-Box container can fit many of your belongings inside of it. If you properly pack it, you can fit about 1 ½ rooms worth of boxes and furniture in each U-Box container. When planning your move, there a few items to keep in mind that may not fit.
What’s the Size of a U-Box Container?
The dimensions of one U-Box container are 95” by 56” by 83.5” (L by W by H). The capacity is 257 cubic feet, with a maximum weight of 2,000 pounds.
That may not seem extremely large, but if you properly pack a U-Box container, you’ll be shocked by how many items can fit inside of it. In fact, you can easily fit a king size mattress.
A U-Box container can give you plenty of flexibility when trying to figure out how many containers you need for your move, renovation project, or extra storage.
What Can Fit in a U-Box Container?
You can fit most of your belongings inside a U-Box container. You can combine moving boxes with furniture inside of it. To maximize your space, you’ll want to stack it in tiers and make sure you fill your storage container as high as possible with your belongings.
An example of what you can place inside it includes:
- Lamps
- Furniture
- Mattresses
- Sports equipment
- Books or movies
- Moving boxes
- Clothes
- Dishes
- Pictures and picture frames
- Yard tools
- Clocks
- Small kitchen appliances (such as a mixer or toaster)
You can fit many more belongings into your U-Box container than what was listed above, but these items can help get you started. You also can read our in-depth article about packing a U-Box container and some U-Box storage container tips and tricks that could help you out.
What Can’t Fit in a U-Box Container?
Now that you know what can fit inside a U-Box container, you’re probably wondering what can’t. The main problem you’ll encounter is your belongings don’t have the right dimensions, weight capacity, or are prohibited items from going inside a U-Box container.
Grand Piano or Upright Piano
Your grand piano or upright piano might not work with a U-Box container. It might be too tall, too wide, or too long to fit inside of it. We recommend measuring your piano to decide whether it’ll go inside a U-Box container. If it won’t fit inside it, you’ll at least know you’ll have to come up with a different plan for it before moving day.
Another reason a grand piano or an upright piano won’t work for a U-Box container is because the grand piano or the upright piano will cause the U-Box to weigh more than 2,000 pounds.
Heavy Appliances
Your heavy appliances also might be a challenge of fitting or weighing inside a U-Box container. Like your pianos, you’ll want to measure your heavy appliances first to see whether they’ll fit inside it. You’ll also want to make sure your appliances are within the maximum weight capacity.
Some heavy appliances might include:
- Washing machine
- Dryer
- Fridge
- Freezer
- Oven
- Dishwasher
If your heavy appliance does fit inside a U-Box container, you’ll want to keep in mind the following tips.
- Make sure you place your heavy appliances directly in the center of the U-Box container
- Strap down your heavy appliance so the U-Box container will have an equal weight distribution
- This also will keep it from moving
- One heavy appliance per U-Box container
- Don’t put moving boxes or anything else along with the heavy appliance
Prohibited Items
Some prohibited belongings include:
- Fireworks
- Gasoline
- Torches
- Plants
